📌 Pinning & Using the Side Panel​

You can pin Octab’s Side Panel for easy access!

How to Pin the Octab Side Panel​

1. Click the puzzle icon in Chrome’s toolbar.
2. Find Octab - Smart Tab Manager and click the pin icon 📌.
3. Now Octab will always be available with one click!

Alternatively, you can open Octab in the Side Panel anytime by:

• Right-clicking on any website → Octab → Open Side Panel

We’ve upgraded the Side Panel for faster tab and folder management:

✔ Folder Actions for Productivity – Manage your saved folders quickly with new action buttons.
✔ Drag & Drop Folder Reordering – Organize your folders right inside the Side Panel.

• Open Websites with Shortcuts:
  • Click once → Opens in the same tab.
  • Cmd/Ctrl + Click → Opens in a new tab.
  • Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + Click → Opens in a new tab and focuses it.
  • Shift + Click → Opens in a new window.
  • Shift + Alt → Opens in Incognito mode.

🏷️ Chrome Groups Support in Folders​

Easier tab management with Chrome Groups inside folders!

• Move an entire group into a folder with one click.
• Or, save a group as a new folder using the save button.

⚠️ Prevent Saving Duplicate Tabs​

Ever accidentally saved the same tab twice? Now there’s a Pro feature to avoid duplicates!

• Enable this option in the Settings page.
• If a tab is already saved, Octab will warn you before adding it again.

Managing a large number of open tabs just got a whole lot easier! With Tab Grouping, you can now automatically organize your tabs into groups based on domains or custom regex rules, all with a single click.

How It Works:​

• Automatic Grouping: Tabs can now be grouped automatically based on their domain or your custom rules.
• Custom Regex Rules: Create smart tab groups using regex patterns. For example, you can group all work-related tabs like *.company.com.
• Sorting & Cleanup Tools: Easily sort groups, close duplicate tabs, and suspend inactive ones.
• Auto-Collapse Groups: Keep things tidy by having unfocused tab groups collapse automatically.

📌 Access this feature anytime from the Side Panel! You can open it there for quick tab organization.

What's New in Version 1.18​

1. Select Multiple Items in a Folder​

You can now select multiple items in a folder to perform actions like moving, copying URLs, opening in a new tab, or deleting—all in one go.

This feature is here thanks to your requests and feedback! It’s not quite the Cmd+A (to Select All) feature yet, but it’s a big step toward getting there.

How to Use:​

1. Hover over the icon to the left of an item and click the checkbox to select it.
2. To easily select additional items, hold down the Ctrl (or Command) key and click on other items.
3. A menu bar with action options will appear at the top—choose your desired action.

2. Turn Any Item into a Task​

Now, you can turn any item into a task simply by setting its status. These tasks will appear in the Tasks page and the Tasks widget, allowing you to set due dates, priorities, reminders, and more.

3. Quick Search at the Top of Each Folder​

Quickly find items in any folder with the new search bar at the top of each folder.

Note:​

When searching or applying any filters, item movement is temporarily disabled for accuracy.

4. Improved Shortcuts for Opening Saved Websites​

We’ve refined how shortcuts work when opening websites to better mimic Chrome’s behavior:

• Click once: Opens in the same tab.
• Cmd/Ctrl + Click: Opens in a new tab.
• Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + Click: Opens in a new tab and focuses it.
• Shift + Click: Opens in a new window.

How to Use:​

1. Right-click an item and select a Status to assign it as a task.
2. View all your tasks in the Tasks page or the Tasks widget for quick access.

5. Improved Chrome Group Selection Item Menu​

We’ve fixed and improved the Chrome Group selection menu to make organizing your items even more intuitive.

How to Use:​

1. In the item menu, click the Group button.
2. Select the group you’d like the item to belong to.
3. When you use the Open All Websites button at the top of your folder, websites will be grouped as you’ve assigned.

6. New Onboarding Folder Tour​

We’ve introduced a new onboarding tour to guide you through Octab’s features. Whether you're a new or returning user, this tour ensures you’re getting the most out of Octab.

This tour is designed with new users in mind, but if you’d like to give it another go, you can restart it anytime! Just head over to your Settings page and click on Restart Folder Tour.

What's New in Version 1.17​

1. New Onboarding Tour Video for New Users​

Starting something new can be a bit overwhelming, so we've put together a helpful onboarding tour video to get you up to speed in no time.

2. Personalize Your Home Page with Custom Backgrounds​

You asked, and we listened! You can now make your home page truly yours by adding your own background images. Show off your style and make Octab feel like home.

How to Do It:​

1. Head over to one of your home pages.
2. Click the Edit button at the top right to enter edit mode.
3. Click on the Background button.
4. Upload your favorite image.
5. Click on your uploaded image to set it as your home page background.

A Few Things to Note:​

• To keep things running smoothly, images need to be under 3MB.
• If you're on the Free Plan, you can upload one image.
• Pro Plan users can upload up to 10 images.

3. Adjust the Grid Size for Snapping Items on Your Home Page​

We're giving you even more control over your home page layout! This feature lets you fine-tune how your items are positioned. Whether you prefer a tightly packed layout or more spacing between items.

How to Use:​

1. Open your home page and click the Edit button at the top right to enter edit mode.

2. You'll see a new Settings button (it looks like a gear icon) in the top right corner—click it.
3. A slider will appear, letting you adjust the grid size. Drag the slider to set the grid spacing that suits your preference.
4. Arrange your items on the grid. They'll snap into place based on the grid size you've selected.

Fixes & Improvements​

We've also squashed some bugs and made enhancements based on your feedback:

• Homepage Switch Buttons: Thanks to a user suggestion, we've improved the look of the homepage switch buttons.
• Folder Button Color: Updated the folder button color to give better feedback when moving items, based on user feedback.
• History Button Move: We've moved the History button to the Settings page. The shortcut key (Y) still works!
• Task Widget Fix: New users were having trouble with the Task widget setup, it's all fixed now.
• Task Filters Pre-set: New tasks will now have filters pre-set when you create them in a new Task View.
• Plan Upgrade Issues: Fixed some hiccups with one-time payment plan upgrades.
• Deleted Tab Display: Resolved the issue where deleted tabs showed only the UUID in Task Views.
• Better Syncing: Improved the syncing mechanism for smoother performance.
• Color Picker Upgrade: Made the color picker nicer to use when customizing your homepage with a static color.

Make sure to update your Octab extension to see these latest changes. Instructions for updating are provided below.

1. Custom Sort by Position in Tasks​

Easily reorder tasks on the Tasks page by custom position.

How to Use:​

1. Go to the Tasks page.
2. At the top, select Position from the Order by menu.
3. You can now drag and drop tasks to arrange them as desired.

2. Tagging and Filtering in Folders​

Assign tags to items and filter by tag at the top of each folder. (Note: Moving items is disabled when filtered)

How to Use:​

1. Go to any of your Folders.
2. Add a tag to any item in the folder by editing the item.
3. At the top of the folder, click on Tags and select the tags you want to filter by.

3. Background Color Sync with Tags​

In Settings, you can enable background colors to match the first tag color, adding a visual layer to item organization.

How to Use:​

1. Go to the Settings page.
2. Enable Background Color Sync with Tags.
3. Navigate to any Folder and add a tag to an item. The item’s background color will match the color of the first tag.

Minor Fixes & Improvements​

• Auto Filters for Tasks: New tasks now come with pre-applied filters.
• Improved Light Theme: Enhanced colors on the Plans page and Folder widget for better readability.
• Folder Button Color Update: Updated the folder button color to provide better feedback when moving an item to another folder.
• Enhanced Color Picker: Improved the color picker interface for a smoother experience when creating a new tag.
